General Information
The 17th "EUROSCHOOL on EXOTIC BEAMS" will be held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, from 4 to 10 September 2010.
The school is intended for PhD students and young post-docs working in areas related to radioactive-ion beams. It consists of several lecture courses given by specialists in their field, starting from a basic level. The school is an annual event initially funded by the EU and now supported by several large research facilities in Europe. The school started off based at Leuven, Belgium in 1993; since 2000 it has travelled around and was organized in various European cities (Jyväskylä - 2001, Les Houches – 2002, Valencia - 2003, Surrey - 2004, Mainz - 2005, Trento - 2006, Houlgate – 2007, Piaski – 2008 and Leuven-2009). This year it is organized by University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) and takes place in Santiago de Compostela, a medieval town which history is closely related to that of the 500 year-old university. It is located in the North-West part of Spain. Santiago de Compostela has an international airport, other international airports closed to Santiago de Compostela are La Coruña (75 km) and Vigo (90 km). Each year the school attracts about 50-60 students from all over Europe.
The production and use of energetic radioactive beams is a rapidly developing new field in nuclear physics, especially in Europe. Pioneering experiments are taking place, dedicated facilities are being commissioned and new facilities are planned. Many workshops and conferences have been devoted to this new field and senior scientists have ample opportunities to be informed on the latest developments. The summer schools on exotic beams have been devised so that Ph.D. students and young post-docs are introduced to this new area and receive basic and detailed information.
A fee of 150 Euro will be charged which covers the registration, accommodation (including breakfast and lunch), excursion, welcome reception and school’s dinner.

Poster session
Participants are encouraged to present their research in a poster form. Posters should be prepared in the vertical (portrait) orientation. They should fit within a rectangle of 90cmx150cm. During a special session, authors will have the opportunity to advertise their poster in a very short oral presentation. These talks cannot exceed 3 minutes and the presentations should not contain more than 3 slides (we accept power point or .pdf formats). We strongly advise you to focus on the very essential point of the contribution – do not try to include all information from the poster!
Registration and welcome reception
The registration will take place in the entrance hall of "Colegio Mayor Fonseca" (Plaza Rodríguez Cadarso, s/n., Campus Universitario Sur, Santiago de Compostela ) on Saturday September 4 from 16.00 h to 19.00 h. A welcome reception will be organized at the same place from 19.30 h to 21.00 h.
By Plane
-
Santiago de Compostela Airport (SCQ)
- Located 10 km away from the town. This is the largest airport in Galice. Most of the long-distance international connections are done via Madrid or Barcelona. For intra-european trips, low-cost companies to several european cities exist.
- The most convenient option to reach Santiago is to organize small groups and take a Taxi (18,50 €). There is a bus connexion with Santiago main bus-station (20-25 minutes walking distance to Colegio Fonseca)
-
Vigo Airport (VGO)
- Located 70 km away from Santiago. Low-cost companies to several european cities exist.
-
La Coruña Airport (LCG)
- Located 65 km way from Santiago. This is also a smaller airport but with international flights to several european cities.
By Train
There are regional trains connecting La Coruña and Vigo with Santiago.
